Energon Universe Special 2026 variant covers unveiled by Skybound and Image

March 31, 2026 by Gary Collinson

The Energon Universe is expanding this May as M.A.S.K. joins Transformers, G.I. Joe and Void Rivals as part of the hugely popular shared comic book universe from Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics, and the stage will be set for the next year of storytelling on Free Comic Book Day with the release of the Energon Universe Special 2026.

“The release of the Energon Universe Special is an exciting annual event in the E.U.,” said Executive Editor Ben Abernathy via press release. “We bring the best talent together to tell exciting short stories that help seed the future of the Energon Universe…and the stories get more exciting each year!”

Along with the Free Comic Book Day 2026 edition, the Energon Universe Special 2026 is also being released as a standard retail version, and while the interior content remains the same, the latter will be available with the same main cover by artist Pye Parr along with the following variant covers from Howard Porter & Romulo Fajardo Jr., Jason Howard, Conor Hughes, and Cedric Poulat…

The Energon Universe Special 2026 will release on Free Comic Book Day 2026 on May 2nd, followed by a retail version on May 6th.
