Exclusive Interview – The Keeper actors David Kross and Freya Mavor talk humour, horror and kickabouts on set

April 2, 2019 by George Nash

George Nash sits down with David Kross and Freya Mavor, stars of the upcoming biographical drama The Keeper, ahead of the film’s forthcoming UK release…

Unless you’re a die-hard Manchester City fan, the name Bert Trautmann probably doesn’t mean a great deal. A former German soldier and British POW, Trautmann went on to make over 500 appearances between the sticks for the Sky Blues throughout the 1950s and ’60s — etching his name firmly into football folklore after famously playing the final 15 minutes of the 1956 FA Cup final with a broken neck. The Keeper, a British-German co-production directed by Marcus H. Rosenmüller, tells his story. But it’s one about more than just a talented goalkeeper: this is a true tale of love and loss, of animosity and acceptance, with a heart as sweet as half-time oranges.

To mark the film’s release in UK cinemas this week, Flickering Myth’s George Nash caught up with actors David Kross (The Reader; War Horse), who plays the eponymous shot-stopper, and Freya Mavor (E4’s Skins; The Sense of an Ending) who stars opposite him, to talk football, future projects and the importance of humour.

The Keeper is released in UK cinemas on April 5th.
