Fantastic Four tracking for $40-$50 million opening weekend

August 5, 2015 by Luke Owen

Reviews are now out for Fantastic Four (and they’re not kind), but the movie is still tracking well for its opening weekend.

Deadline are reporting that the Josh Trank directed movie is tracking better than Marvel’s Ant-Man and should take the number one spot from Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation with somewhere between $40-$50 million. Tom Cruise’s fifth entry in the Mission: Impossible series, however, is expected to drop around 50% on last week to around $20 million.

While $40-$50 million isn’t a terrible number, it should be noted that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was released around the same time last year and opened to $94 million.

THE FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

Fantastic Four is set to hit theaters on August 7th, with Josh Trank (Chronicle) directing a cast that includes Miles Teller (Whiplash) as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara (House of Cards) as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station) as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, Jamie Bell (Nymphomaniac) as Ben Grimm/The Thing, Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) as Doctor Doom, Reg E. Cathey (House of Cards) as Dr. Storm, and Tim Blake Nelson (The Incredible Hulk) as Harvey Elder/Mole Man.
