First image of the King of Pop from Antoine Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic

January 20, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

With production set to get underway imminently on Antoine Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic, the film’s star, the late singer’s nephew Jaafar Jackson, has released the first image of him as the controversial King of Pop.

The actor took to Instagram and posted the black and white image of him performing Jackson’s iconic signature move, with a caption that reads “The Journey Starts Monday,” which is presumably in reference to the biopic going before the cameras next week. Check it out below.

Directed by Training Day‘s Antoine Fuqua, from a script by Gladiator‘s John Logan and Graham King, the man behind the Academy Award-winning Bohemian Rhapsody, Michael promises to cover all elements of the singer’s life, including the high-profile scandals that dogged him right up until his death in 2009.

The official synopsis for Michael reads: “Michael will bring audiences a riveting and honest portrayal of the brilliant yet complicated man who became the King of Pop. The film presents his triumphs and tragedies on an epic, cinematic scale — from his human side and personal struggles to his undeniable creative genius, exemplified by his most iconic performances. As never before, audiences will experience an inside look into one of the most influential, trailblazing artists the world has ever known.”

Michael will be released in cinemas on April 18, 2025.
