Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis gets a new trailer and poster

August 21, 2024 by Amie Cranswick

UPDATE: Somewhat incredulously, the trailer has been removed by the studio due to it incorporating fake quotes from movie critics regarding Francis Ford Coppola’s past movies, with a statement reading: “Lionsgate is immediately recalling our trailer for Megalopolis. We offer our sincere apologies to the critics involved and to Francis Ford Coppola and American Zoetrope for this inexcusable error in our vetting process. We screwed up. We are sorry.” Original story follows…

With a little over a month to go until the theatrical release of Megalopolis, Lionsgate has shared a new trailer for Francis Ford Coppola’s star-studded passion project

Set in an imagined Modern America, the film sees a genius architect (Adam Driver) and a corrupt Mayor (Giancarlo Esposito) caught in a conflict as they disagree on how the city of New Rome should be rebuilt following a devastating disaster.

The film stars Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Kathryn Hunter, Grace VanderWaal, Chloe Fineman, James Remar, D.B. Sweeney, and Dustin Hoffman. Watch the trailer below…

MEGALOPOLIS is a Roman Epic set in an imagined Modern America. The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina (Adam Driver), a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito), who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero (Nathalie Emmanuel), the mayor’s daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.

Megalopolis arrives in cinemas on September 27th.
