Godzilla vs Kong director revealed, Wonder Woman tracking huge opening, Sin City TV show and more – Daily News Roundup

June 1, 2017 by admin

LET THEM FIGHT

With Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures putting all of the pieces in place for their MonsterVerse, the studios announced yesterday that Adam Wingard (The Guest) will be helming the monster duel Godzilla vs. Kong. Wingard directed last year’s Blair Witch and has also helmed the Netflix live-action adaptation of Death Note. Read more here.

LIVE, DIE, REPEAT, END.

Announced a couple of weeks ago, it seems as though the sequel to Edge of Tomorrow – Live Die Repeat and Repeat – will conclude the franchise. “I think what people tend to do with sequels is they just make them bigger,” Doug Liman said. “I see this as a two-movie franchise; there’s the completion of the story we set up in the first movie and the relationships between Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt—because, remember, at the end of the first movie, she doesn’t know who he is—and that’s gonna launch us into an amazing new direction,” Doug Liman said. “It does pick up right where we left off, but it doesn’t keep going forward, because we’d screw with time, because the aliens screwed with time.” Read more here.

GLOBAL WOMAN

After scoring well with critics around the world (read our review here), DCEU entry Wonder Woman is tracking for a solid global box office opening. Deadline are reporting that the domestic tracking of $60-70 million is still in place, but international markets could really pick the picture up with $100+ million due to the positive press. In total, Wonder Woman could make upwards of $200 million when it opens this weekend. Read more here.

BANNED WOMAN

In some rather sad news, however, it has been announced that Wonder Woman will be banned in Lebanon due to star Gal Gadot’s nationality. Read more here.

SIN CITY TV

Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s Sin City was a very popular film when released in 2005, but it’s long-gestating sequel Sin City: A Dame to Kill For didn’t quite have the same punch. Deadline are now reporting that former Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazzara and director Len Wiseman (Underworld) will be working on a TV version of the comic books with Miller. The report says that the show won’t take inspiration from the films and will be closer to the books while also being a “fresh take” with new stories. Read more here.

GUARDIANS OF THE BOX OFFICE

Having outgrossed its predecessor, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has now crossed $800 million worldwide. Congrats guys! Read more here.
