Harrison Ford says Indiana Jones 5 will shoot next year

Aside from everyone’s favourite scruffy-looking scoundrel Han Solo, the other role Harrison Ford is known for the most is that of famed archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones.

Having portraying Indy four times throughout his career, a planned fifth Indiana Jones movie has been on the table for several years now, and was originally supposed to be released this year before getting delayed. Now, according to Ford himself, Indiana Jones 5 may be finally ready to enter production next year.

At the premiere for The Secret Life of Pets 2, Ford told Variety that Indiana Jones 5 “should be starting to shoot sometime next year.” On stepping back into the role and picking up the whip once again, Ford said “I’m looking forward to it. Things are coming along well.”

Ford first starred as Indiana Jones in the 1981 film Raiders of the Lost Ark as he searched for the powerful Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis could get their hands on it. He returned to the role again for Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade. After an almost 20 year break, Ford again played Jones in 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Whether or not this will be his last time portraying Indy remains to be seen, but Ford has already assured fans that they won’t be seeing another actor in the role at all if he has his way: “Nobody is going to be Indiana Jones. Don’t you get it? I’m Indiana Jones. When I’m gone, he’s gone. It’s easy!… This is a hell of a way to tell Chris Pine this. I’m sorry, man.”

Indiana Jones 5 has a release date of July 9th, 2021.
