HBO Max is removing most of its DC movies this month

June 13, 2020 by Gary Collinson

HBO Max may have set the pulses of DC fans racing with the announcement that it’s set to bring Zack Snyder’s Justice League to the screen, but it has been revealed that the streaming service is set to remove a dozen of its DC movies on July 1st as it moves towards a rotating pattern for its superhero content.

Set to leave the service on July 1st are Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad, Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, Catwoman, Jonah Hex, and The Losers, as well as The LEGO Batman Movie.

That leaves just Aquaman, Shazam!, Joker, Green Lantern and Supergirl available to subscribers, although HBO Max confirmed to Comic Book that: “We have a collection of DC films that will rotate on the platform. We have a new batch coming in July and then another batch coming in August.”

There are of course a number of DC movies absent from the launch line-up to fit a rotating pattern (see The Dark Knight Trilogy, the Superman solo movies, Birds of Prey…), but any DC fans who’ve subscribed to HBO Max are sure to be left disappointed by this news. However, with WarnerMedia also still operating the DC Universe streaming service, it is perhaps unsurprising…

What do you make of WarnerMedia’s handling of its DC content? Would you prefer to see it all grouped together on one service? Let us know your thoughts in the comments or on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
