Henry Cavill would “rather focus on the future” rather than a Zack Snyder Cut of Justice League, talks Man of Steel 2 villain hopes

July 19, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Given the amount of CGI upper lip we saw in Justice League, it seems pretty clear that the vast majority of Henry Cavill’s Superman scenes in the final cut of the DC superhero ensemble came by way of Joss Whedon’s reshoots.

While much of the material that Cavill shot for Zack Snyder ended up on the cutting room floor, the actor has revealed to Yahoo! Movies that he doesn’t really see any point in calls for the ‘Snyder Cut’, and would prefer instead to focus on what the future might bring for the Man of Steel.

“I don’t know if [the Snyder cut] actually exists so the only way I can look at it is as a business model, and I don’t know what difference it’s going to make,” said Cavill. “There are stories to be told, which need to be told and adjustments that can be made, but that’s not going to make any difference.”

“I think it might be entertaining, for sure, and go, ‘Oh look, now I’ve scratched that itch,’ but it’s not going to change anything that I can think of, it’s not going to make huge amounts of money all of a sudden for a studio,” he continued. “They’re not going to release it into cinemas and so they’re not going to suddenly make an extra few hundred million. So it would be interesting to see what the difference is, but I’d rather focus on the future rather than what’s been.”

And speaking of the future, Cavill was also asked which Superman villain he’d like to see in the long-rumoured Man of Steel sequel, responding that: “I think a great villain would be Brainiac, that’d be a good villain to play against. Brainiac’s a big threat. There’s a lot of fun. There’s a lot of storylines to him.”

Are you still holding out any hope for a Snyder Cut of Justice League, or – like Cavill – do you just want to focus on the future now? And who would you like to see Superman battling in Man of Steel 2 if the sequel moves ahead? Let us know in the comments below…

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League reunites Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Robin Wright as General Antiope alongside J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera and Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Steppenwolf.
