Irem Collection Volume 3 bring classic titles to consoles this July

June 20, 2025 by Andrew Newton

ININ, Tozai Games and Irem will be releasing the third instalment of the Irem Collection on 1st July on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox. The Irem Collection Volume 3 will feature fantasy-infused shoot ‘em ups that will challenge players’ skills, these are Mr. Heli, Mystic Riders and Dragon Breed. A new trailer can be seen below…

Unlike the previous two volumes of the Irem Collection, the games includes a couple of fantasy inspired titles that were huge in the days of the arcades.

In Mr. Heli, players take control of the little legged chopper with plenty of firepower. First arriving in arcades in 1987, Mr. Heli won gamers over with it’s “cute ‘em up” aesthetic, puzzle-like maps, hidden paths, an impressive arsenal and massive bosses. As players progressed, they would mine crystals, earn cash and spend that money on upgrading their weapons. Such was it’s popularity, it gained fans around the world on nearly every platform.

1992’s Mystic Riders was a fantasy shooter that had players ride on broomsticks and battle giant sky turtles, flaming demons and a variety of other mythical creatures. Players would journey through vibrant worlds, blocking projectiles with their broomsticks, dodge-rolling past hazards and blasting anything that came at them. Players will be able to join others in local co-op with the other player taking to the skies as Mark the wizard or Zeal the witch.

Dragon Breed is a 1989 gem of the arcades that takes players into battle atop the biomechanical dragon Bahamoot. This mighty mechanical beast can shield players from danger while also scorching everything in its path. Although not as popular at the time as other shoot ’em ups, Dragon Breed was popular enough to be converted to home platforms.

The Irem Collection Volume 3 will feature optional controller enhancements, such as rapid-fire button assignment and customisable controls. Players will be able to make good use of the quick save/load and built-in rewind features, and show off their skills in the online world leaderboards.

Irem Collection Volume 3 is available to pre-order now and will launch on 1st July. Irem Collection’s 1 & 2 are also available on consoles.
