Jason Blum hopes to release The Hunt eventually, admits marketing errors

August 19, 2019 by Liam Waddington

Producer Jason Blum has admitted Blumhouse Productions and Universal made “marketing mistakes” when advertising The Hunt but he still hopes to release the film eventually after its theatrical release was pulled last week.

In a recent interview with Vulture, Blum has revealed he hasn’t given up on The Hunt just yet with a chance of the film being released in the future, stating “Definitely a chance. I hope so.” Regarding any mistakes he has to learn from the production of The Hunt, Blum said:

“I learned a lot of lessons. Wouldn’t alter my … If I was offered the choice to make the movie again, I would say yes,. “We definitely made marketing mistakes, and we made plenty of mistakes along the way. So I’ve learned a lot. It might change how I would position movies and how I would consult on the marketing of the movies. But actually the making of the movies? No.”

Last week, The Hunt was pulled from its release schedule and marketing was cancelled due to the controversy following the recent mass shootings in the U.S. and criticism from President Trump.

For anyone unaware, The Hunt revolves around 12 strangers who are kidnapped by a group of rich individuals who attempt to hunt down and kill these “deplorables.”

The film was set to be directed by Craig Zobel from a screenplay by Damon Lindelof and Nick Cuse, starring Betty Gilpin as a woman who finds herself targeted by a group of global elites who hunt “deplorables” for sport. The cast also features Hilary Swank, Emma Roberts, Justin Hartley, Ike Barinholtz, and Glenn Howerton.

Would you like to see The Hunt released eventually? Do you think it was the right or wrong move to pull the film? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @flickeringmyth…
