John Wick is now a billion dollar franchise with box office success of Chapter 4

May 19, 2023 by EJ Moreno

John Wick is a billion-dollar baby now. The action film franchise has been a fan-favorite pop culture moment since its debut in 2014, and now that’s paying off in the form of the franchise surpassing a billion at the box office.

With the success of John Wick: Chapter 4, the franchise is now standing at around $1.011 billion across four films. Each installment has seen growth with audiences, growing from its $86.1 million haul in 2014 to Parabellum bringing in $328.3 million globally. The latest film, which opened at $73.5 million, has now made over $425 million. As this fourth entry sits at almost $100 million more than the last, it’s a rare feat of a non-family-friendly IP growing each time.

“This milestone is a testament to the incredible work of Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves, alongside Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, who have made it their mission to outdo themselves with each successive film in this franchise,” Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Joe Drake said. “We could not be more grateful to global moviegoers for bringing us to this incredible achievement.”

At the moment, it seems like Keanu Reeves has paused any more John Wick entries; the franchise will continue through different mediums. Ballerina, a spinoff film starring Ana de Armas, is set for release in 2024, and a prequel series titled The Continental will stream on Peacock this year [watch the trailer here].

John Wick: Chapter 4 is still playing in cinemas worldwide and is set to hit digital later this month, while the Steelbook and 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD will be available next month on June 13.

“John Wick (Keanu Reeves) uncovers a path to defeating the High Table.  But before he can earn his freedom, Wick must face off against a new enemy with powerful alliances across the globe and forces that turn old friends into foes.”

John Wick: Chapter 4 is once again directed by Chad Stahelski and stars Keanu Reeves as John Wick, Lance Reddick as Charon, Ian McShane as Winston, and Laurence Fishburne as The Bowery King. Newcomers to the franchise include Donnie Yen (Ip Man), Japanese-British pop singer Rina Sawayama, Hiroyuki Sanada (Army of the Dead), Marko Zaror (From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series), Shamier Anderson (Wynonna Earp), Bill Skarsgård (It: Chapter Two), Scott Adkins (The Bourne Ultimatum) and Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption).
