John Williams starts scoring Star Wars: The Last Jedi, possible Arnold Schwarzenegger DC return, Lucifer renewed – Daily News Roundup

February 14, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Rounding up yesterday’s big news stories…

JOHN WILLIAMS STARTS SCORING THE LAST JEDI

After sitting out Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, legendary composer John Williams returns to the Saga this December for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and it’s been revealed that he’s already started scoring sessions for the movie, to enable director Rian Johnson to use the score during post production. Williams was also celebrating this past Sunday, as he picked up a Grammy for his work on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Read our article on his work on The Last Jedi here.

THE ICE MAN COMETH AGAIN!

The DC Twitter detectives may have uncovered another piece of news for the DC Extended Universe. Both DC Entertainment President Geoff Johns and Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins have started following Arnold Schwarzenegger on Twitter, prompting speculation that Arnie could be set for a return to the DC universe twenty years after starring as Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin, potentially to provide voice work or motion capture for the film’s big villain. Read our report here, and if you’re a Wonder Woman fan you may also want to take a look at Mattel’s line of tie-in toys and dolls here.

NEXT X-MEN MOVIE TO SHOOT THIS YEAR

There’s been a tonne of rumour and speculation about the next instalment in 20th Century Fox’s main X-Men franchise, and while we’re yet to get any confirmation about the X-Men: Supernova title or possible Dark Phoenix plotline, Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner has confirmed that it will shoot this year, and she’ll be finished before HBO’s epic fantasy series begins filming in September. Now all Fox needs is a director. And a cast. Read more here.

LUCIFER RENEWED

Good news for fans of Fox’s comic book adaptation Lucifer, as the network has announced that Tom Ellis’ fallen angel will be returning for a third season of 22 episodes later this year. Read Fox president David Madden’s comments on the renewal here.

CALL OF DUTY GOES BACK TO BASICS

If you’ve been left disappointed by the Call of Duty franchise’s shift towards sci-fi, you’ll be pleased to know that Activision have confirmed the next instalment will see the series returning to its roots with “traditional combat”, as it attempts to regain the first-person-shooter crown from EA and its rejuvinated Battlefield IP.
