Kevin Feige supported Avengers: Infinity War’s ending from the beginning

May 2, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Right from the start, Kevin Feige was in full support of the ending for Avengers: Infinity War.

Now that fans are enjoying Infinity War in huge swarms around the world, audiences are starting to talk about that dramatic ending, with our cast of Marvel characters in an incredibly dire and desperate situation as the film closes.

With all the death and destruction that the film leaves its audiences pondering upon, one might imagine that Marvel Studios and its president Kevin Feige may have taken some convincing to keep it that way.

Well, according to Infinity War screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, Feige was onboard right from the start. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, McFeely revealed:

“From the very beginning, Kevin said, ‘Don’t be afraid of that move. It’s OK to go there, and let’s go there.”

The film reaches its climax as Thanos executes the infamous click of his fingers, a moment fans of the comics have been waiting for, which in the film wipes out half of the universe’s population.

The writers talked about the decision of when and how to create this moment in the movie: “The question was, ‘How do you get there?’” McFeely said. “‘How do you bring the most story and emotion and pathos?’ And was it going to be where it was? Do you do it at the end of the movie? Do you do it at some other spot?”

“There are still questions,” Markus said. “What are they [The Avengers] going to do, and all those sorts of things. But if you had stopped it before he snapped his fingers, or with four stones, that really is just a pause button. That really is just going, ‘What’s he going to do?’ ‘Will your hero stop dangling from the cliff?’ And we wanted to put a much more definitive ‘Yes, this happens. Deal with it,’ tone at the end of it, rather than jerk you around.”
