Krysten Ritter discusses the new dynamic between Jessica Jones and Trish Walker in season 3

May 30, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Spoilers for Jessica Jones season 2 follow…

Season two of Marvel’s Jessica Jones saw a major shake-up in the relationship between Krysten Ritter’s Jessica and her now former best friend and adoptive sister Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor).

In the season finale ‘AKA Playland’, Trish – who now possesses superhuman abilities of her own having forced Karl Malus, the doctor who gave Jessica her powers, to perform experiments on her too – is responsible for killing Jessica’s long-lost mother Alisa (albeit with noble intentions).

As you might expect however, this creates a bit of a rift between the two, and Krysten Ritter has been chatting about the possible ramifications of their falling out in the third season of the show during a Q&A and Comicpalooza (via CBM).

“I don’t know and I’ve been thinking a lot about that because we’re going into season 3 and how things were left were so hardcore,” said Ritter. “I built so much of my performance and so much of what I do with the character, if I ever get lost or if I’m ever like, ‘oh, what am I gonna do with this scene,’ I kind of always go back to Jessica’s love for Trish.”

“Trish is the most important person to her, and now she has betrayed her in this huge way, and I don’t know what’s gonna happen,” she continued. “I think it’s gonna be an interesting challenge for me, in my performance, to flip it. And really, that’s gonna be a big struggle I think, because it’s the only person she loves and lives for, to now have that taken away from her I think is gonna be really, really challenging and tricky. Yeah, I don’t know.”

Jessica Jones was renewed for a third season back in April, which will presumably arrive late in 2019 after Luke Cage season two, Daredevil season three, Iron Fist season two and The Punisher season two.

New York City private investigator Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) is beginning to put her life back together after murdering her tormenter, Kilgrave. Now known throughout the city as a super-powered killer, a new case makes her reluctantly confront who she really is while digging deeper into her past to explore the reasons why.

The second season of Jessica Jones sees the return of Krysten Ritter as the hard-drinking super-powered private eye, along with Rachael Taylor (Trish Walker), Carrie-Anne Moss (Jeri Hogarth), Eka Darville (Malcolm Ducasse), David Tennant (Kilgrave) and new cast members Janet McTeer and J.R. Ramirez.
