Lucasfilm announces Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series

September 27, 2018 by Gary Collinson

If you cast your mind back to the summer of 2016, you may recall that Lucasfilm’s ILMxLAB announced it was teaming with David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Call of Duty: Black Ops) for a VR experience centred on Darth Vader, and now we have the official announcement and first trailer for said project, titled Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series.

According to the official Star Wars site, Vader Immortal will be spread across three episodes, and takes place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, during the period where the Dark Lord of the Sith is helping The Emperor to consolidate The Empire’s grip on the galaxy.

Further plot details are being kept under wraps, but it has been revealed that we will wield a lightsaber, as well as being able to explore Vader’s castle on Mustafar. The game is also part of the official Disney Star Wars canon, with Goyer stating that:

“We came up with the concept, and then we had a conversation about where in the timeline it would fit. Everyone felt very strongly that it’s a legitimate Vader story and that it advances the ball in terms of who he is and what his goals are. We were also determined to make sure that it’s a story you can only experience in VR. There aren’t any other plans to port this into any other medium. We wanted to design it specifically for VR.”
