Marc Forster to direct Tom Hanks in comedy A Man Called Otto

February 1, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Tom Hanks is set to star in a comedy adaptation of Scandinavian hit A Man Called Ove for STX Films, with Quantum of Solace director Marc Forster calling the shots.

According to Deadline the adaptation will be retitled A Man Called Otto and that joining Hanks in the cast will be Mariana Treviño (Overboard), Rachel Keller (Legion) and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (6 Underground).

A Man Called Otto will see Forster reunite with his Finding Neverland writer David Magee to tell the story of a grumpy isolated widower with staunch principles, strict routines and a short fuse, who gives everyone in his neighbourhood a hard time as he watches over it like a hawk. Just as it seems like he’s finally given up on life, an unlikely and reluctant friendship develops with his new neighbours. Little by little, Otto undergoes a subtle transformation…but is he really capable of change?

2017’s Swedish effort A Man Called Ove was written and directed by Hannes Holm having been adapted from a novel by Fredrik Backman. It was nominated for Best International Feature Film at the 2017 Academy Awards.
