Marvel’s Wonder Man cancelled despite previous season 2 renewal

August 1, 2026 by Gary Collinson

As Marvel marches towards the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga and the next stage of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the studio seems to be clearing the decks somewhat with the confirmation that the long-gestating Mahershali Ali-led Blade reboot has been staked through the heart joined by the news that the Disney+ series Wonder Man has also been axed, despite previously having been renewed for a second season.

“Word just dropped that Wonder Man won’t be coming back for Season 2 (And if you don’t knowww, now ya knoww!)” wrote star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who portrays the titular character Simon Williams, on social media. “That’s life, right? Everything will shake out. I wanted to say thank you to everybody who WATCHED the show, ENJOYED the show, and SHARED that they enjoyed the show in some way or other. The show worked. And that’s my favorite thing about it. I could see it on the faces of the Youtube Reactors (because I watched along with y’all this time. Shoutout to y’all) and I can see in the messages I get saying how the show reminded some of you not to give up, and I feel it in the genuine love shared when I bump into some of you all during the day. So, thinking of you all today. I’m glad we got to be a part of something cool. Thank you for watching… And uhh… See you at the EMMYS.”

Created by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings helmer Destin Daniel Cretton (who is currently enjoying a record-breaking opening weekend with Spider-Man: Brand New Day), alongside showrunner Andrew Guest (Hawkeye), Wonder Man saw Yahya Abdul-Mateen II joined in the cast by Ben Kingsley, reprising his Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi role as Trevor Slattery, and followed the pair of struggling actors as they look to secure roles in a Hollywood remake of the superhero franchise Wonder Man. The series premiered on Disney+ back in January of this year, and was initially announced as having been renewed back in March. There has been no word as to the reason behind the decision.

Are you disappointed that we won’t be getting a second season of Marvel’s Wonder Man? Let us know on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
