Matt Reeves officially signs on to direct The Batman

February 23, 2017 by Gary Collinson

He was in, he was out, and now he’s in again…

After pulling out of negotiations last week (a week after first entering them), Cloverfield, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes helmer Matt Reeves has now officially closed his deal with Warner Bros. to direct and produce The Batman.

“I have loved the Batman story since I was a child,” said Reeves. “He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply.  I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen.”

The Batman has seemingly been in disarray the past few weeks following Ben Affleck’s decision to step away from the director’s chair in order to focus on his on screen role as Bruce Wayne / Batman. However, hopefully with Reeves’ appointment things will now finally settle down and the musical director’s chairs comes to an end.

At this point, it’s unclear what Warner’s plans are for The Batman; the studio had been pressing to go into production in the spring/summer, aiming for a 2018 release, although there has been talk that a 2019 date could be on the cards.
