All the Money in the World just qualifies for the Golden Globes in time

November 30, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Ridley Scott has just about managed to get All the Money in the World across the line in time for Golden Globes consideration.

Scott has been busy reshooting parts of his historical biopic All the Money in the World, having to recast Kevin Spacey with Christopher Plummer after the former’s sexual assault scandal broke.

The filming is now complete and on December 4th a rough cut of the film will be screened in New York for members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, therefore allowing the movie to qualify for Golden Globes consideration.

Monday is the actual voting deadline for HFPA members, so Scott made it just in time, quite the feat given the circumstances.

Variety reports that this is a unusual situation as filmmakers don’t usually provide screenings of unfinished films for the HFPA. But awards are of course a big deal for films such as this and can help tremendously with marketing.

Sony and TriStar Pictures plan on having the finished product ready by mid-December so that it can be screened for domestic press in the US, just before its December 22nd release date.

ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD follows the kidnapping of 16-year-old John Paul Getty III (Charlie Plummer) and the desperate attempt by his devoted mother Gail (Michelle Williams) to convince his billionaire grandfather (Christopher Plummer) to pay the ransom.

When Getty Sr. refuses, Gail attempts to sway him as her son’s captors become increasingly volatile and brutal. With her son’s life in the balance, Gail and Getty’s advisor (Mark Wahlberg) become unlikely allies in the race against time that ultimately reveals the true and lasting value of love over money.

All the Money in the World is set for release on December 22nd.
