New look at Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Captain Marvel vs. The Hulk, more Twilight and Hunger Games movies and more – Daily News Roundup

August 10, 2017 by Luke Owen

AWW! LOOK AT THE CUTE THING!

Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, some brand new images from Rian Johnson’s hotly-anticipated Star Wars: The Last Jedi were revealed yesterday, featuring Rey (Daisy Ridley), Luke (Mark Hamill), Finn (John Boyega), Rose (Kelly Marie Tran), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), Chewbacca and the Ahch-To inhabitants the Porgs and the Caretakers, along with shots of Supreme Leader Snoke’s Praetorian Guards, Kylo Ren’s TIE Silencer, and the Canto Bight location. Check them all out here.

THE JEDI SPEAKS

And with all Entertainment Weekly photo releases, we also got quotes from Daisy Ridley, director Rian Johnson and Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill. “The fact that Luke says, ‘I only know one truth. It’s time for the Jedi to end…’ I mean, that’s a pretty amazing statement for someone who was the symbol of hope and optimism in the original films,” said Hamill. “When I first read it, my jaw dropped. What would make someone that alienated from his original convictions? That’s not something that you can just make up in an afternoon, and I really struggled with this thing.” Read the other quotes here.

CAPTAIN MARVEL VS. THE HULK

The ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe added Brie Larson to its ranks last year as Captain Marvel, and the Kong: Skull Island star has been talking about who she’d like to fight when she joins the melee in Avengers 4. “I do kind of have fantasies of battling The Hulk, just because that’s like, it’s just visually so good,” said Larson in an interview with USA Today, during which she also explained how she was initially reluctant to join such a huge franchise: “The Captain Marvel thing was something I really spent a lot of time thinking about.  And eventually I came to the conclusion that being part of a giant feminist film that can be a symbol for people, that was one I wished I would have had, just outweighs some of the small annoyances [of fame]. Like, they’re really small in comparison to the good that it can do.” Read more here.

WONDER WOMAN CROSSES MILESTONE

Another big milestone has been passed for DC Extended Universe movie Wonder Woman, as the Amazon has earned more than $400 million at the domestic box office. Congrats! Read more here.

MORE TWILIGHT AND HUNGER GAMES?

If you thought the YA fantasy adaptations of Twilight and The Hunger Games were done after their last books were split into two parts, think again. “There are a lot more stories to be told, and we’re ready to tell them when our creators are ready to tell those stories,” said Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer, who then clarified that the studio would only move forward with the approval of the series’ respective authors, Stephenie Meyer and Suzanne Collins. THE NOT-SO-AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3

If The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a success at the box office, the comic book landscape would be very different to how it is now. Spidey wouldn’t be in the MCU, Andrew Garfield would still be Peter Parker, and we would have had spin-off movies for Sinister Six, Venom/Carnage and even Aunt May. In a new interview, director Marc Webb has revealed that the plan was to bring back Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn to lead the Sinister Six alongside The Vulture. “They were going to make a Sinister Six movie before we did the third [Spider-Man movie],” he said. “Chris Cooper was going to come back and play the Goblin. We were going to freeze his head, and then he was going to be brought back to life. And then there was that character called The Gentleman. We had some notions about how to do it, but I think maybe we were thinking too far ahead when we started building in those things. But it was a fun exercise. I look back very fondly on those days.” Read more from that interview here.

REVIEW OF THE DAY

While its predecessor wasn’t well-reviewed at all, Robert Kojder was a fan of Annabelle: Creation. Check out his ★★★★ review here.
