New Star Wars Holiday Special coming to Disney+, in LEGO form!

August 13, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Lucasfilm is putting together a brand new Star Wars Holiday Special that will air on Disney+.

The original Star Wars Holiday Special released in 1978 has a special place in the franchise’s history but did anyone think Lucasfilm would actually make another one?

Well, it turns out that is exactly what is going to happen, with USA Today breaking the news on a new 45-minute event that will air on Disney+. It will arrive on November 17th (the same date as the original) but unlike the first special it will feature animated LEGOs.

Executive producer Josh Rimes said: “We wanted to give a wink and a nod to the original. It’s a celebration of the saga. A lot of characters will be interacting with different characters and perhaps even different versions of themselves at different ages.”

The likes of Rey, Finn, Luke, Vader, Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Mace Windu will all be involved in the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special, and a few of the characters will even be voiced by the original actors.

The story of the special will see Rey and BB-8 on a quest to “gain a deeper knowledge of the Force, but their visit to a mysterious Jedi Temple sends them careening through time and space.”

It will also feature Rey interacting with a young Luke from A New Hope: “It’s really hilarious with what’s going on with those guys. It becomes a much different take on a teacher and apprentice with the more seasoned Rey and a younger Luke.”

It sounds like a lot of fun and coupled with the second season of The Mandalorian a month before, it will make the absence of a new film this year just a little bit easier.
