Nicholas Hoult in talks for J.R.R. Tolkien biopic

July 26, 2017 by Gary Collinson

It looks like Nicholas Hoult could be following up his role as J.D. Salinger in Rebel in the Rye by potraying another legendary author, with Variety reporting that he is in talks to play J.R.R. Tolkien in the biopic Tolkien.

The film is set to be directed by Dome Karukoski (The Home of Dark Butterflies) and will explore the formative years of Tolkien and the events and experiences prior to the outbreak of World War I which ultimately inspired him to create Middle-earth and his iconic fantasy tales The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

In addition to his role as Salinger in Rebel in the Rye, Hoult will soon be seen as Nikola Tesla in The Current War, and is also currently reprising the role of Beast for X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
