Producer Joel Silver suggests Sherlock Holmes 3 could shoot this year, teases more sequels

May 22, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Last month, Robert Downey Jr. suggested that a reunion with director Guy Ritchie and co-star Jude Law could be on the cards later this year for a third Sherlock Holmes movie, with Warner Bros. subsequently announcing that James Coyne (Vikingdom, Puncture Wounds) is penning the script. Now producer Joel Silver has reaffirmed to Collider that cameras could begin rolling in the fall as well as teasing the possibility of further extending the franchise beyond a third movie.

“It looks like it could happen this fall,” states Silver. “Downey said he wants to do it. He’s gotta launch into [Avengers: Infinity War], right after the New Year, so we’re trying to get it done. We have a script that we like. Jude Law is available and Downey is available, and we’re hoping we can get it done. If it works, great. If not, we’ll do it another time. But, it looks like it could happen now.”

“I hope,” he continued, when asked whether Sherlock Holmes 3 would mark the end of the franchise. “I don’t think so. How many Bond films have they made? As long as there’s a character, we can work with it. It’s not an end story. We can keep going, as long as people want to do it. It’s [the actors’] call. They have to say, ‘Okay, I’m ready to go.’ I read about them making another Bad Boys. If they want to do it, then you try to get it done.”
