SDCC: William Shatner talks Star Trek 3 rumours

July 10, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

At a panel at SDCC, William Shatner was asked by an audience member about the rumours that he is set to share the screen with young Captain Kirk, played by Chris Pine, in the new film Star Trek Beyond, which is set for release next summer. Word on his potential cameo had surfaced as early as last September.

“Am I in the next movie? Tell me!” replied Shatner, before telling the audience about his experiences with the “original” movie back in 2009, which featured the late Leonard Nimoy as Spock. Back then, he was reportedly set to appear, but when the news leaked of his involvement, Abrams changed the script to discount Kirk “Prime”.

Star Trek Beyond is set for release on July 8th, 2016 and will be directed by Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6) based on a script written by Simon Pegg with returning cast members Chris Pine as James Kirk, Zachery Quinto as Spock, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Zoë Saldana as Uhura, Karl Urban as Bones, John Cho as Sulu and Anton Yelchin as Chekov.

Would you like to see Shatner return as Kirk for the third film? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below, and stay tuned to Flickering Myth for the very latest from San Diego Comic-Con this weekend!
