Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is returning to IMAX

January 4, 2024 by Ricky Church

It may be a long wait for Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse, but Spidey and Miles Morales fans have an opportunity to see the web-slinging heroes on the big screen again and not just any screen, but IMAX as it returns for a limited release this month on January 19th.

The news was announced by Spider-Verse writer and producer Christopher Miller on his X (formerly Twitter) account where he said fans who didn’t catch the film in theatres last summer “can see the jaw-dropping level of detail & innovation lovingly put into every frame.”

If you didn’t get a chance to catch ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE on the big screen – where you can see the jaw-dropping level of detail & innovation lovingly put into every frame – you’ve got another chance!

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse was indeed jaw-dropping as many reviews, including several of ours, thought it visually impressive and a whole lot of fun (read my 5-star review here). It greatly outperformed Into The Spider-Verse at the box office and was one of the few studio blockbusters of 2023 that did considerably well around the world.

It might be a while though before we see the conclusion to the Spider-Verse trilogy as Sony pulled Beyond The Spider-Verse from its March 29th, 2024 release date, giving it to Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, and from its release schedule entirely. This was due to last year’s SAG-AFTRA strike which prevented the cast from performing their voiceover roles as well as apparently 100 VFX artists quitting production due to the demanding schedule and deadlines they were given along other issues. Hopefully we will learn more about Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse this year.

Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar®-winning Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man™: Across the Spider-Verse. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse hails from directors Joaquim Dos Santos, Justin K. Thompson, and Kemp Powers and features a voice cast that includes Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, Jake Johnson as Peter. B Parker, Oscar Issac as Spider-Man 2099, Issa Rae as Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, Daniel Kaluuya as Spider-Punk, Karan Soni as Spider-Man India, and Jason Schwartzman as The Spot.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse will be re-released on IMAX screens January 19th, 2024.
