The Flickering Myth Reaction to the Avengers: Endgame trailer

December 8, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Ricky Church: It was a good trailer. Not very much shown in the way of plot, but it doesn’t really need it at this point. I like that it lets the characters and you sit with the devastating ending of Infinity War and offers Tony and Cap a little introspection in its aftermath. It’s a slow build that still packs a fair amount of emotion into it (Cap looking at Peggy’s picture in his old watch was great). Ronin also looks cool and Ant-Man’s return at the end was a nice humourous touch that offers Cap a bit of hope. I’m not too surprised Endgame is the title given Doctor Strange’s comment and I wonder why all the secrecy around it when most people guessed it fairly quickly. I’m eager to see more footage of Endgame, but honestly I might just bow out of the forthcoming trailers and go in cold. Endgame deserves to be experienced that way.

Tai Freligh: I liked it. Totally knew it would be called Endgame, so no shocker there. I loved the surprise appearance of Hawkeye/Ronin and actually cheered. Also liked seeing Scott and wondered how the heck he got out of the Quantum Realm after that end credit scene in Ant Man and the Wasp. Looks to be just the right amount of reveal for the first trailer. Don’t tell me too much, but tease me enough to keep me excited.

Allen Christian: Also, Endgame is a bad title. I don’t know how they dragged on for the better part of a year without committing to a title and then finally decided on that one.

Red Stewart: I would’ve preferred Infinity Crusade, but Endgame technically works since it is the end of an era in the MCU. The trailer itself was good. Very simple, but I kind of respect them for going back to that older era where the teasers WERE light on content, but heavy on atmosphere.

Helen Murdoch: Really like that there’s no real spoilers, tone is fittingly dark and I love that Cap is taking the lead. Goosebumps were rampant during trailer!!

Danny Hale: Excellent trailer; it showed so very little and has me hyped already. I appreciate that it focussed on the emotion of the characters rather than the action and as much as I can’t wait to find out what happens I hope the next trailer is as vague as this one.

Jessie Robertson: Awesome tone, just enough intrigue and Hawkeye with a katana…. What could be better?

Matt Smith: Like Hawkeye’s re-intro and, as said above, the introspective bits with Tony Stark and Captain America. The trailer didn’t make me any more excited but then I am already quite excited for the movie, so… It’s a little bit of a shame that we know Spider-Man and such are coming back in some capacity and that there’s the inevitability of this continuation of some sort of story. In effect, it’s the one major problem with long running comic books – they have to continue in some way, so you can be pretty sure it’s not actually going to be the End Game for the viewers involved. In that regard it’s Eastenders with super powers. All that being said – SPOILER ALERT! Iron Man dies in the first twenty minutes from oxygen deprivation! Overall I like the tone of the trailer and hope the film can match it. And that despite what I’ve just said, Infinity War did surprise me so I hope that happens again when the film comes out in April.
