The Transformers: The Movie Deluxe Edition incoming in August from Skybound and Image

February 16, 2026 by Gary Collinson

Hasbro is commemorating the 40th anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie in 2026 with ‘The Apology Tour’, a year-long celebration honoring the legacy of the classic animated movie which traumatised a generation by mercilessly killing off the heroic Autobot leader Optimus Prime during his epic Autobot City confrontation with arch-nemesis Megatron.

As part of the celebrations, Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics have announced the upcoming release of the first-ever hardcover edition of The Transformers: The Movie, which brings together both comic book adaptations of the film – The Transformers: The Movie #1-3 from Marvel Comics and The Transformers: The Animated Movie #1-4 from IDW Publishing – into one deluxe volume.

“The Transformers: The Movie hit like a lightning bolt, anyone who’s seen it (including me!) has at least one moment forever burned into their memory,” said Senior Editor Nachie Marsham. “Reprinting both the original and the 20th anniversary adaptations in this new volume is a great way for folks to experience it all over again!”

Relive the legendary final battle between two legends, the heartbreaking fate of Optimus prime, and witness the rise of a new generation of Autobots and Decepticons as they face the ultimate threat – Unicron! Whether you’re a lifelong fan or discovering the original saga for the first time, this deluxe hardcover is a must-have.

The Transformers: The Movie Deluxe Edition will release in comic book shops on Wednesday, August 12th 2026, and in book shops and digital platforms from Tuesday, September 8th 2026.
