Tom Holland teases the return of Marvel One-Shots

June 29, 2017 by Justin Cook

What makes the Marvel Cinematic Universe feel like a living, breathing universe isn’t just the 15 (soon to be 16) theatrically released feature films and multiple TV shows with constant references and tie-ins to one another, but the more obscure and less explored corners of the franchise as well. On top of prelude comics and online shorts, in the early years of the MCU, Marvel Studios attached 4 to 15-minute short films, called One-Shots, to the Blu-Ray and digital releases of such films as Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger and more; in total, five were released.

Not since “All Hail the King” (released with Thor: The Dark World) has the studio announced another short, but Spider-Man: Homecoming star Tom Holland may have accidentally spilled the beans about the future of the Marvel One-Shots in a recent interview with UPROXX.

Initially, the outlet questioned Holland about which character he’d like to see Spider-Man team up with in the already announced sequel to Homecoming; the actor replied to the question (one he’s gotten before) by once again expressing his love for Paul Rudd and Ant-Man and even getting excited over the idea of Ant-Man shrinking Spider-Man. Upon talking about it further, Holland stated, “I want to do a short. That’s what I want to do. I want to do a 20-minute short with me and Paul Rudd.”

When the interviewer noted how the concept sounded fairly familiar to the Marvel One-Shots, the actor chimed in, “Yeah. I think they are planning on doing it again.” Immediately after realizing the slip-up, Holland said, “I probably just spoiled a big spoiler. Kevin Feige’s probably going to be furious.”

While news surrounding the One-Shots has been quiet for quite a while, Feige did say in 2015 that the studio wasn’t opposed to making more and had no shortage of ideas. The next MCU film due out for a home video release is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and although it’s unlikely, perhaps the studio has a special surprise in store for those who purchase it on Blu-Ray or digital platforms. Regardless, it sure sounds like more world-building short films are on the way.

Sound off in the comments below! Are you excited for more One-Shots?

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

Spider-Man: Homecoming sees Tom Holland and Marisa Tomei reprising their roles from Captain America: Civil War as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Aunt May, alongside Marvel veterans Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts and Chris Evans as Captain America. New additions to the cast include Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Bokeem Woodbine, Tyne Daly, Michael Barbieri, Abraham Attah, Hannibal Buress, Kenneth Choi, Angourie Rice, Michael Chernus, Michael Mando, Logan Marshall-Green and Jennifer Connelly.
