Transformers 6 is yet to find a director despite 2019 release date

June 15, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Transformers 6 is eyeing a 2019 release date but the movie does not yet have a director attached.

Transformers: The Last Knight is due out in cinemas next week, and will reportedly signal Michael Bay’s final film in the franchise. But there are already plans underway for what comes next for the main series.

Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner spoke in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter saying that even though there is as yet no director attached to the project, Transformers 6 is on track for a 2019 release.

“There is not a director yet, but it’s certainly a date we believe we can achieve. We own several hundred characters in the mythology. People don’t know much about their home planet. We’re in the process of thinking about what is the next story to tell.”

All franchises on the scale as Transformers plan multiple films ahead, and The Last Knight will surely make a ton of money – in international markets if not at home – so fans shouldn’t worry too much about them getting out over their skis on this one.

Of course there is always a chance the sixth movie gets pushed a little should they need more time acquiring the talent they need, or if the story isn’t coming together as desired. Meanwhile, Paramount also has the Bumblebee spinoff movie set for release on June 22nd 2018.

The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock). There comes a moment in everyone’s life when we are called upon to make a difference. In Transformers: The Last Knight, the hunted will become heroes. Heroes will become villains. Only one world will survive; theirs, or ours.

Transformers: The Last Knight reunites Michael Bay with franchise veterans Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, Stanley Tucci, John Turturro, John Goodman and Peter Cullen, while new additions to the cast include Isabela Moner (100 Things to Do Before High School), Jerrod Carmichael (Bad Neighbours), Laura Haddock (Guardians of the Galaxy), Santiago Cabrera (Merlin), Liam Garrigan (Once Upon a Time), Mitch Pileggi (The X-Files) and Anthony Hopkins (Thor: The Dark World). The film hits theaters on June 21st, 2017.
