Twenty films in contention for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects

With awards season heating up, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that twenty films remain in contention for a nomination for the Oscar for Best Visual Effects.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Independence Day: Resurgence
The Jungle Book

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
Passengers
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Star Trek Beyond
Suicide Squad
Sully,
Warcraft
X-Men: Apocalypse

The Academy will whittle down the above list to ten contenders over the coming weeks, with five then going to to receive a nomination when they are announced on January 24th.
