…An alleged casting call for Black Panther arrived online this week, which claims to detail the supporting characters set to join Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa in the Ryan Coogler-directed solo movie. Oddly, for a casting call, it also includes breakdowns of the already-cast Ulysses Klaw and Everett Ross, (played by Andy Serkis and Martin Freeman respectively), so there’s definitely a whiff of bullshit surrounding this one…
…Since his release from prison, Wesley Snipes has spent a lot of time talking up the prospect of his return as Blade, and he’s been at it again this week, taking to Twitter to state: “When it comes to another Blade, there’s always a possibility. Ball’s in Marvel’s court.” Snipes had previously suggested that he met with Marvel about a potential return as the Daywalker during last year’s San Diego Comic-Con International, and there’s been (very, very dubious) rumours lately which suggest that the character could be headed to Netflix. Personally, I’m not convinced by either of those claims…
…The Blade talk leads us nicely into the Netflix side of the MCU, and this week has brought us some new set photos from Luke Cage, which show Mike Colter’s Power Man doing battle with the villain Willis Stryker, a.k.a. Diamondback, who is being portrayed by Erik LaRay Harvey (Boardwalk Empire). Check out the set photos here…
…With Jessica Jones confirmed for a second season, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg and star Krysten Ritter have been discussing how the events of the season one final will affect the title character going forward (SPOILERS!!). “The greatest rape of Jessica Jones was being forced to become a murderer,” said Rosenberg. “She took a life, and that’s so counter to who she is. The reason she doesn’t just walk up and kill him is she doesn’t let him define her in that way. She walks away with some really complicated stuff going on, which we’ll be able to explore next season.” Ritter went on to add that: “[Kilgrave] was her reason for getting up at 3 o’clock in the afternoon . She spends most of the show trying to get him into prison. She doesn’t want to kill him, but that becomes her only choice. I don’t think all that trauma and PTSD goes away now that she kills him…”
…Hot Toys has announced that it is set to produce a series of 1/6th scale collectible figures based on Marvel’s Daredevil series, releasing a promo image teasing the range…
…Moving on to the DC Extended Universe now and with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice finishing its theatrical run (having grossed $871 million), Warner Bros. released a couple of rather nice unused posters from the marketing campaign featuring Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight and Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel, while Mattel unveiled a promotional image of its San Diego Comic-Con exclusive Wonder Woman Barbie doll…
…In other Batman news, fresh from being appointed as the new co-chief of DC Films, Geoff Johns has spoken for the first time about collaborating with Ben Affleck on a solo movie for The Dark Knight: “I do get to say I’m working on Batman with Ben Affleck. That gets the Thanksgiving table excited, especially my brother.” Affleck himself was also full of praise for Johns, stating that: “I would read anything by Geoff Johns. Fucking genius, I love him. I love DC, I’m really excited about where it’s going, and I couldn’t be more honored and thrilled to be on board and part of this DC universe…”
…This week gave us some new promotional art and promo images for Suicide Squad, thanks to a calendar for the DC supervillain team-up which includes shots of The Joker (Jared Leto), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and the rest of Task Force X [check them out here]. Meanwhile, Bandai has unveiled two S.H. Figuarts action figures for the film featuring The Joker and Harley, and you can check out the promotional images here…

…Following the Arrow season four finale, star Stephen Amell has been talking about the future of the Green Arrow, stating that he’d like to see a back-to-basics approach in season five: “When we started Arrow, we were the superpower-less superhero show. Because of our success and because of opportunities that The CW has had, we’ve had to break away from that original modus operandi a little bit, because we were introducing Barry Allen, and in subsequent seasons, we’ve shepherded some of the Legends of Tomorrow onto their own show. Even though Supergirl is joining the ranks, there’s no new person or new show to introduce this year, and I think as a result of that, we need to get back to focusing more on some of the core elements that used to define Arrow. To me, that’s hand-to-hand combat, no superpowers, and dealing with the job of cleaning up Star City…”
