Washington film critics hand top prize to Get Out

December 9, 2017 by Tom Beasley

Get Out continued its awards season push by winning a pair of prizes at the Washington DC Area Film Critics Association awards ceremony, including Best Film.

Jordan Peele’s racially-charged satire also won the award for Best Original Screenplay at the annual ceremony, while missing out on the director prize. It was Christopher Nolan who won that award, marking Dunkirk‘s entry into the awards season race.

The other big winners on the night were Three Billboard Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Blade Runner 2049, which won big in the technical categories thanks to its enormous sci-fi vision.

Martin McDonagh’s Three Billboards won Best Actress for Frances McDormand, Best Supporting Actor for Sam Rockwell and Best Acting Ensemble for the cast as a whole.

Gary Oldman left with the Best Actor award for his work as Winston Churchill in biopic Darkest Hour and Best Supporting Actress went to Laurie Metcalf for Lady Bird.

LGBT romance film Call Me By Your Name was conspicuous by its absence, as was Guillermo del Toro’s creature feature The Shape of Water.
