Zoe Kravitz discusses Catwoman role in The Batman

January 21, 2020 by Gary Collinson

While we’ve caught a glimpse of a few cast members on the set of The Batman, including Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne and Colin Farrell’s Penguin, so far there’s been no sign of Gotham’s new Catwoman, who is being portrayed in the Matt Reeves-directed reboot by Big Little Lies and Fantastic Beasts actress Zoe Kravitz.

Kravitz has spent the past week on the Television Critics Association press tour promoting her upcoming TV series High Fidelity, but she did take some time out to discuss her new role as Selina Kyle, with the actress explaining the appeal of the character in an interview with Variety.

“I think Catwoman, Selina Kyle represents really strong femininity, and I’m excited to dive into that. I think femininity represents power, and I think it’s a different kind of power than masculine power,” said Kravitz. “That’s something that’s really interesting about Batman and Catwoman. I think Batman represents a very kind of masculine power, and Catwoman represents very feminine power – slightly more complicated, and softer, too. I like the idea that you can be soft, you can be gentle and still be very powerful and still be very dangerous.”

“I think Catwoman is an iconic character,” she continued. “I was never into a lot of comic books, but that world was always really intriguing to me. And then of course Michelle Pfeiffer – her performance has always been super inspiring to me. It just felt iconic.”
