Scott Derrickson to direct Marvel’s Doctor Strange

June 3, 2014 by admin

While Marvel attempt to find a director to replace Edgar Wright over in the Ant-Man camp, it seems they have found the man for the job to helm the big screen adaptation of Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the form of Scott Derrickson (Sinister), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Doctor Strange first appeared in Strange Tales #110 in 1963 and was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. The series was about Doctor Stephen Strange, a former neurosurgeon who serves the Sorcerer Supreme – the main protector against magic and mystical threats on Earth.

Given Vulture’s recent “scoops” on Thanos and the Infinity Gems in Guardians of the Galaxy, it would make sense for Marvel to introduce Doctor Strange and his brand of magic into the cinematic Universe.

A movie version of Doctor Strange has been rumoured for some time and it looks like we may finally be getting it. Scott Derrickson himself tweeted an image of himself reading a Doctor Strange comic.

Scott Derrickson’s Deliver Us From Evil will be released in the US on July 2nd and stars Eric Bana, Edgar Ramirez and Olivia Munn. He wrote and directed Sinister and wrote its sequel Sinister 2. He also wrote and directed The Exorcism of Emily Rose for Screen Gems in 2005.

Are you happy with Scott Derrickson directing a Doctor Strange movie?
