Michael Douglas confirms Ant-Man for Comic-Con, talks Edgar Wright’s departure

July 9, 2014 by Gary Collinson

As has become customary over the past few years, Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation looks set to be one of the highlights of the San Diego Comic-Con International later this month. Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers: Age of Ultron are sure to feature heavily, and now Michael Douglas has confirmed to Collider that he’ll be in attendance as part of the panel for Ant-Man. The Phase Three offering has had its share of troubles, and Douglas also went on to share his thoughts on the departure of director Edgar Wright (The World’s End)…

“[Edgar] is a wonderful talent. It was very disappointing, yeah. It was a big disappointment and more so for him because he had a lot of years invested and he was really the one initially who got them to even consider it, you know, the screenplay that he wrote. I’m not the producer on it and I’m an actor for hire, and, you know, Marvel certainly has a pretty amazing track record, rightly or wrongly, so I think it just was that kind of combination where although they like the idea of the individual and somebody with Edgar’s individual spirit and everything, maybe just collided with an operation – I think they’re all on relatively decent terms.”

Wright was of course a firm fan favourite, so it will be interesting to see the reaction to the film when Douglas and company arrive on stage in Hall H on Saturday, July 26th.

Ant-Man is set for release on July 17th 2015, with Peyton Reed (Down with Love) directing a cast that includes Paul Rudd (Anchorman), Michael Douglas (Last Vegas), Patrick Wilson (Watchmen), Evangeline Lilly (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug), Corey Stoll (House of Cards),  Michael Pena (Cowboys & Aliens), Matt Gerald (Dexter), Kevin Weisman (Hello Ladies) and David Dastmalchian (The Dark Knight).
