DC and Vertigo comics character Lucifer lands pilot commitment at Fox

September 17, 2014 by James Garcia

Warner Bros. is showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to bringing DC Comics characters to the small screen, as Deadline is now reporting that Lucifer, a character who debuted in Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman and eventually got his own eponymous spin-off, has been given a pilot commitment at Fox.

Californication creator Tom Kapinos will write and produce the show, and if it gets picked up it will follow the titular Devil as he resigns his throne and abandons Hell in favor of the “gorgeous, shimmering insanity of Los Angeles, where he opens an exclusive piano bar called Lux.”

If picked up for series, Lucifer will join a handful of other DC Comics shows, including The CW’s Arrow, The Flash, and iZombie, NBC’s Constantine, and Fox’s Gotham, as well as in-development shows like Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler’s Supergirl, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Preacher at AMC, and Akiva Goldsman’s Titans at TNT.

What do you think of this news? Does a character like Lucifer deserve his own series? Sound off in the comments below…
