Kodi Smit-McPhee will play young Nightcrawler in X-Men: Apocalypse

February 18, 2015 by James Garcia

Director Bryan Singer has announced via Instagram that Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Let Me In actor Kodi Smit-McPhee has joined the cast of X-Men: Apocalypse as fan-favorite teleporting mutant Nightcrawler.

The size of the role is, unfortunately, still a mystery, and there’s no word on whether or not Nightcrawler will be the son of Mystique and Azazel as he was in the comics. Chances are that Nightcrawler’s role is akin to something like Quicksilver’s in last year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. That’s only a guess on my part though, based on the rest of the cast that Singer has assembled for this high-profile mutant pic.

Smit-McPhee joins a sprawling cast that includes returning players James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Evan Peters, Sir Ian McKellen, Rose Byrne and possibly Hugh Jackman, as well as new additions Channing Tatum as Gambit, Oscar Isaac as the titular Apocalypse, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, and Alexandra Shipp as Storm.

Tell us, what do you think of this casting news? Sound off in the comments below.

Directed by Bryan Singer, X-Men: Apocalypse is slated for release on May 19th, 2016.
