Hayley Atwell talks Agent Carter season 2, a potential Peggy movie, and her Ant-Man role

March 29, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Hayley Atwell was in attendance at the Emerald City ComicCon on Friday, during which she took part in a Q&A to discuss her role as Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, during which the conversation covered ABC’s Agent Carter, the chances of a second season and a movie spin-off for the World War II heroine, and her upcoming appearance in Ant-Man.

“I would like one of two things — I’d really like to explore her background of where she’s come from, what her family was like, what created this exceptionally strong and unique woman, and who it was in her life that told her she could be just as good — or better — as the guys,” said Atwell when asked what she’d like to see in a second season of the show. “Secondly, I’d like to go a few years in the future, to see how she tackles being a mother and a wife, as well as being kick-ass in the office.”

“Yes, 100%,” she replied, when asked if she’d be interested in an Agent Carter movie. “I’d like to see her vulnerability. I think sometimes we can depict woman as strong like it’s a new thing — we’ve always been strong, that’s ridiculous. But I’d like to see her vulnerability. No matter how hard life gets, we can only be strong for so long, before we grab the ice cream and cry into the television. I’d like to see that. The charm of Peggy is that she doesn’t have any superpowers. I’d like to see her everyday life back at home, the loneliness, the cost of what it means to be living this life. I think that’s real.”

We will be seeing Peggy back on the big screen twice this year in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man, and Atwell was asked about her role in July’s franchise-launcher, replying that: “She crosses over, but it’s more of a cameo. It’s not a flashback — well, it is, but not to the point where it’s 1946.”

Would you like to see Atwell reprising the role of Peggy for a second season of Agent Carter, or a feature film? Let us know your thoughts…
