For the past few years, Marvel Studios had been running pretty much unopposed when it comes to shared superhero movie universes, although that’s about to change as Warner Bros. kickstarts its DC slate next year with the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad.
However, Disney chief Bob Iger isn’t afraid of the increased competition, telling journalists at the Allen & Co media conference in Sun Valley that:
“We’re Marvel. We’ve done a great job of building the Marvel brand, which we think when it’s on a movie really makes a difference. We’re seeing signs of that. We like the Marvel slate that we have coming up. We think they’re unique in many ways and have no concerns [about competition] whatsoever.”
Should Marvel be concerned about competition from DC – not to mention Fox’s expanding superhero properties – or is Iger right that Marvel has built enough goodwill with fans to continue its run of blockbuster successes? Let us know in the comments below…
