Oscars 2013: And the winners of the 85th Academy Awards are…

February 25, 2013 by admin

Last night the stars gathered at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California for the biggest night in the film calendar as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented the 85th Academy Awards. Going into the ceremony, it was Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln which led the field with 12 nominations, but the big winner on the night was Ben Affleck’s Argo, which claimed the coveted Best Picture award, as well as Best Film Editing and Best Adapted Screenplay.

With Affleck out of consideration for Best Director, it was Ang Lee who took home that award, with Life of Pi going on to claim a further three Oscars (the most of any film this year) – Best Music (Original Score), Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects. As expected, Daniel Day-Lewis claimed Best Actor for his role in Lincoln (which also claimed Best Production Design), becoming the first person in history to win that award three times, while Jennifer Lawrence was named Best Actress for Silver Linings Playbook. Other multiple winners included Les Miserables (Best Supporting Actress – Anne Hathaway, Best Music – Original Score and Best Makeup and Costuming), Django Unchained (Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor – Christoph Waltz) and Skyfall (Best Music – Original Song and Best Sound Editing).
