Jeremy Renner named Hollywood’s “best value” star of 2017

December 27, 2017 by Gary Collinson

After posting their list of the most overpaid actors in Hollywood – topped by Mark Wahlberg – Forbes has now unveiled the top five stars offering the best value for the buck for 2017.

As ever, the rankings takes into account the box office takings of the last three films each actor starred in leading up to June 1st 2017, not including animated movies, cameos/minor roles, and limited releases. The production budget is then deducated from this, and the figure divided by the star’s estimated salary to give a return on dollar investment figure.

With Chris Evans previously topping the list for the past two years [see here and here], another Marvel star leads the way this year in Jeremy Renner, who amassed a box office return of $93.80 for every dollar paid thanks to his roles in Captain America: Civil War, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and Arrival.

Here’s the top five…

1. Jeremy Renner – $93.80
2. Emma Watson – $70.70
3. Scarlett Johansson – $66.50
4. Amy Adams – $46.10
5. Chris Pratt – $34.40

Renner – and the rest of his Marvel colleagues – look set to have a bumper year in 2018, what with the release of Avengers: Infinity War in May. Renner also has Mission: Impossible 6 incoming, although that won’t count in next year’s figures given that it doesn’t open until July.
