Avengers: Endgame writers are done at Marvel Studios but open to returning

August 3, 2019 by Liam Waddington

Marvel Cinematic Universe writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who have written Marvel Studios films including Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, confirm their break from Marvel but are open to returning in the future.

In a recent interview with Los Angeles Times, McFeely said, “We’re gone, no. We are not working for Marvel at the moment.”

“We’ve written for every character they have. It’s incumbent upon us, one, to let other people play with the toys, but also for us to go recharge our batteries, develop other skills, and then come back, should the opportunity arise,” Markus added.

“We love them, hopefully they like us, we would gladly go back when the need arises. But at the moment we’re not there. We were on, literally, continuously from [Captain America: The First Avenger] to the end of Endgame. It’s a long run.”

For now, the writing duo will instead be working on projects at AGBO, the studio they started with directors Anthony and Joe Russo, where Markus and McFeely are adapting The Electric State as their first project.
