Zack Snyder may have to got to see his original vision for Justice League shared with the world thanks to the release of The Snyder Cut, but it seems that opportunity isn’t being afforded to fellow DCEU director David Ayer and his original cut of Suicide Squad.
WarnerMedia moved swiftly to crush the #ReleaseTheAyerCut campaign last week by declaring that the company has no intention of developing and/or releasing Ayer’s Suicide Squad cut, and now the filmmaker has spoken about his frustration over having his film “ripped to shreds” by the studio.
“I get it, it’s a business,” said Ayer. “It’s frustrating because I made a really heartfelt drama and it got ripped to pieces and they tried to turn it intoDeadpool, which it just wasn’t supposed to be. And then you take the hit, you’re the captain of the ship, my name was on it. [Laughs] Even though it didn’t represent what I actually made, I would take all the bullets and be a good soldier. I made an amazing movie. It’s an amazing movie, it just scared the shit out of the executives.”
As it stands at the moment, we’ll just have to take Ayer’s word as to how amazing his original version of Suicide Squad is. Hopefully one day we’ll be able to judge for ourselves.
