Jodie Comer “in talks” for Amazon’s Blade Runner 2099 series

March 14, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

Having worked together on The Last Duel, and almost reunited on the Napoleonic battlefield for the director’s long-gestating biopic, Jodie Comer might finally get to collaborate with Ridley Scott once again on Amazon’s Blade Runner 2099 TV series.

According to Jeff Sneider of The Hot Mic (jump to 19:20 in the video) the “word on the street” is that the Free Guy and Killing Eve actor is “in talks” to star in the Blade Runner spin-off series. Sneider underlined Comer’s previous work with Ridley Scott, although there were no further details on the show beyond speculation.

Alcon Entertainment, who secured the rights to Blade Runner back in 2011, and Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions have teamed with Amazon Studios for the live-action series, which will be set within the world of Blade Runner.

Blade Runner 2099 has been written by Silka Luisa (Shining Girls), who will executive produce the series alongside Ridley Scott, director of the 1982 original and executive producer on Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049. Plot details are being kept under wraps at present, but based on the title we can assume it will take place 50 years after the sequel.

Next up for Comer is London-set apocalyptic drama The End We Start From, in which she co-stars alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and Mark Strong, in which she plays a mother navigating her way home against the backdrop of the apocalypse.
