UPDATE: Avengers: Infinity War passes Justice League at the worldwide box office

May 1, 2018 by Gary Collinson

After setting a record worldwide opening of $640 million this past weekend, it was only a matter of time before Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War surpassed the total box office haul of Warner Bros.’ Justice League.

Well, sure enough it only took one more day to achieve that feat, as Infinity War grossed $24.7 million in North America on Monday, pushing its global haul beyond the $658 million total that its DC competitor pulled in following its release last November.

International figures for Monday are still to come in, but Infinity War will cross the $700 million mark worldwide today (if it didn’t manage to do so yesterday with its international numbers) and will presumably join the billion dollar club in its second weekend.

UPDATE: International figures are now in, and Infinity War added a further $60.3 million from these markets on Monday, for $725.5 million and counting.

Infinity War will also expand into Russia this Friday, before making its way to the lucrative Chinese market on May 11th. By that point, it seems likely it will have surpassed the $1.519 billion haul of 2012’s The Avengers to become Marvel’s highest-grossing release to date.
