Marvel Studios has plans through to 2024, but what might they be?

July 15, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Although Marvel Studios is playing its Phase Four cards very close to its chest, preferring instead to focus on Ant-Man and the Wasp and the upcoming Captain Marvel and Avengers 4, studio chief Kevin Feige has confirmed to Birth.Movies.Death that plans are in place for the next six years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Obviously people are aware of Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which James Gunn gets into prep on very soon. Outside of that, we like the idea of having the world do what we’re doing, which is focusing on the immediate future. Once that happens, we will, I don’t know that we’ll do exactly the same kind of thing, that many years out, but there are secret vaulted doors in Marvel Studios that lead to essentially what we’ll be doing between now and 2024.”

“We’ve started to, within the last six months or so, we’ve started to engage on certain developmental levels on a lot of those things going forward,” he continued. “Which of those will be made, when they’ll be made, the ones that bubble up to the top are the ones people have heard of. But that’s all I’ll say about that.”

Marvel Studios has Spider-Man: Far From Home set to arrive one July 5th 2019, and has three dates per year reserved for 2020, 2021 and 2022. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is targeting one of the 2020 dates, while Black Panther 2 has been confirmed by Feige, and a director has just been hired for a Black Widow solo movie, so presumably they’ll both be part of the next Phase.

Other possibilities for Phase Four include Spider-Man 3, Doctor Strange 2 and The Eternals, while Captain Marvel 2 is also surely a strong possibility, assuming Marvel continues its winning streak when the first movie opens next year. Expect an Avengers / New Avengers / Young Avengers movie of some kind in there too, and maybe even Ant-Man 3.

Of course, all these plans might change if and when we finally get confirmation that the X-Men and Fantastic Four are coming home to Marvel through the Disney / Fox acquisition.
