Terminator: Dark Fate director says the franchise has been “tainted”

September 18, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Tim Miller, the director of Terminator: Dark Fate, says that the franchise has been “tainted” in recent years.

It’s fair to say that the reputation of the Terminator franchise has gone down with recent entries into the franchise. Terminator 2: Judgment Day was certainly the pinnacle of the series and that seems like an awfully long time ago now.

The franchise is having another crack at things with Tim Miller’s Terminator: Dark Fate but the director admits that the brand has been tainted. Speaking to TotalFilm, he said:

“I think the brand has been tainted a little bit. I don’t want to disparage the work of any of those movies, and some of them were interesting, but I feel like they just played in the world of The Terminator – it was essentially a different thing. T2 was just one of those events that was a fucking revelation. It’s one of those films that everyone remembers what they were doing when they first saw it. I still don’t think I realize what I’m doing trying to follow that up…”

Fans of the franchise will be hoping that Dark Fate is a return to form but what do you think? Has the franchise’s name been too badly tainted in recent years for audiences to give it another chance? Let us know in the comments below and on Twitter @flickeringmyth.

Terminator: Dark Fate is being directed by Tim Miller (Deadpool), with James Cameron producing, and sees Arnold Schwarzenegger (T-800), Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor) and Edward Furlong (John Connor) reprising their roles alongside new cast additions Mackenzie Davis (Blade Runner 2049), Natalia Reyes (Lady), Diego Boneta (Pretty Little Liars) and Gabriel Luna (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). The film will be released on October 23rd in the UK and November 1st in North America.
