Daisy Ridley on the difficulties of filming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker without Carrie Fisher

December 5, 2019 by Liam Waddington

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker star Daisy Ridley, who is best known for playing Rey, has discussed the difficulties of filming the final episode without Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa.

“It was very difficult. It was emotional doing it because you’re also weirdly picturing her. You’re not picturing how the scene is going to be,” Ridley told British GQ. “It’s really sad. And it’s going to be really sad. But also, it’s amazing they have all this footage that is woven into the story in such a strange way.”

Unfortunately, back in December 2016, we lost Carrie Fisher before she finished her run as Leia Organa in the Sequel Trilogy. However, J.J. Abrams and his crew discovered eight minutes worth of unused footage from The Force Awakens that were used in The Rise of Skywalker instead of digitally recreating or recasting Carrie.

Do you think bringing back Carrie Fisher through unused The Force Awakens footage was a good decision? Are you looking forward to The Rise of Skywalker? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @flickeringmyth…
