Spectre opens with £41.3 million at the UK box office, shatters previous record

November 4, 2015 by Gary Collinson

UK box office top ten and analysis for the weekend of Friday 30th October to Sunday 1st November 2015…

James Bond’s 24th adventure Spectre has shattered the record for the biggest ever opening at the UK box office, posting a whopping £41,299,090 haul to annihilate the previous holder, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which debuted with £23.88 million.

Both of those figures are bolstered by their respective films opening in a Monday, boosting the totals by four days of previews. In terms of the Friday-Sunday weekend, Spectre fell just short of £20 million for the third-biggest opening below Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (£23.75 million) and Skyfall (£20.18 million).

With 007 dominating the multiplexes, the only other newcomer in the top ten is the New York Met Opera’s live stream of Tannhauser, which grossed £162,876 to take eighth place.
